"By hand" is still relative. I guess they didn't draw it with a pencil on paper and scan it in. They highly probably just got software that emulates a skeleton and put the cartoon character images on the positions of the "bones" of this skeleton.

alex apparently that is incorrect and the song was apparently named it’s a dare, but Shaun Ryder mispronounced it’s a dare and said it’s dare and they liked it so much they shortened the song title to just dare. Saw a comment don’t know if it’s true or not

I showed this to my roomates 12 years old son. All he did through the whole video was say things like: 'it weird', 'it's too weird' and 'i don't get it', it was so damned depressing! Kids have no creativity or complexity of mind these days. When I was 12 I watched and was inspired by Music Videos for hours a day on MTV (which had just come out),. No video could be 'weird' enough for me. Then or Now!

This 100% I've always heard Gorillaz over the years, caught glimpses and snippets of the music videos and characters etc but never paid too much attention. I recently saw a clip of Noodle dancing from the first verse of this video and it just hit me... I've had to watch this video numerous times and love how she's just vibing and dancing...
